Staff positions available:

Bard & Bourbon is expanding!  

 

Beginning next season, Bard & Bourbon will be establishing a parallel non-drunk branch called the Gravediggers to further our mission of connecting a broad range of audiences to classical theatre.  These two branches will collectively be organized under the title Mad Rogues.

 

With this expansion, we are hiring an Artistic Director and Managing Director for the upcoming season!

 

Ideal candidates will have a passion for bringing classical theatre to new markets and seeking out ways to diversify the people and communities involved with Mad Rogues.  Preferred candidates will be familiar with Bard & Bourbon’s past productions but all candidates will be considered.

 

Please note: both positions will involve at least some minimal interaction with and regular mentions of alcohol and/or drunk actors.  We ask that you be sure it is both safe and healthy for you to regularly discuss alcohol, be in the presence of alcohol, and/or be in the room with people who are or have been drinking heavily before applying.

 

 

Artistic Director

The position entails the following responsibilities:

 

- Developing, managing, and executing a cohesive vision for the season which upholds the central vision and guiding standards of Mad Rogues

- Selecting shows for the season including both Bard & Bourbon (drunk shows) and Gravediggers (non-drunk) selections

- Coordinating  with the Managing Director to maintain a budget for each show

- Hiring directors

- Coordinating with directors to hire artistic staff including: performers, designers, stage managers, etc.

- Attending periodic rehearsals to ensure company standards and vision for the season is being maintained

- Upholding actor safety in all shows

- Maintaining and reinforcing company rules about consumption of alcohol

- Coordinating with Chair of Marketing to advertise the season

 

The Artistic Director may direct or perform in up to one show during the season they are hired to oversee.  

 

The Artistic Director will be hired to oversee one Mad Rogues season from initial show selection through the performance of the final summer show/event.  Candidates will be eligible for rehire in subsequent seasons.

 

This position includes a nominal annual stipend plus variable additional compensation based on ticket sales.

 

 

Managing Director

The position entails the following responsibilities:

 

- Assisting the Board of Directors with the development and administration of the annual budget

- Coordinating with the Chair of Fundraising to establish and meet fundraising goals for the season

- Establishing a budget for individual shows during the season in coordination with the Artistic Director

- Renting rehearsal and performance space for all shows in coordination with the Artistic Director

- Identifying and coordinating new rental opportunities

- Oversee box office and house management for all performances including hiring staff as needed and maintaining accurate accounting

- Soliciting and coordinating grants, sponsorships, and donations

- Coordinating with Chair of Outreach to identify new opportunities for involvement in the greater Milwaukee community
